Suspicious Male

Dear Residents,

Please be advised that a suspicious male was seen looking into the back garden of a property on Stuart Road, SW19, on 08 May 2026 between approximately 06:15am and 06:20am.

During this time, the unknown individual was observed climbing onto a residential property fence and peering over into the garden area. The male was disturbed and fled after being spotted by a local resident.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police. If you have any information that may assist with enquirers, please contact police on 101.

3 STEP PROTECT

Protect your valuables

·  Keep valuables out of sight from any windows and store keys away from letter boxes.

·  Use timer switches to light your home to suggest someone is in during the evening and night time.

·  Using a forensic marking kit to protect your valuables allows for easier recovery if stolen; take photos of your valuables too. For more information on product marking go to www.met.police.uk/cp/crimeprevention

·  For high value items, consider safe storage facilities away from your home. The National Pawnbrokers Association

provide a list of vault venues in London. Alternatively, use a security rated home safe bolted to the floor or wall and not on display. www.securedbydesign.com provides more information on accredited safes.

Safeguard your building

·  Install a monitored burglar alarm to deter opportunist criminals.

·  Good lighting is essential. Installing a dusk till dawn light can help identify people and is safer for people coming and going after dark.

·  Lock all windows and double lock doors whenever you leave home, even just for a few minutes.

·  Upgrade your door locks by using British Standard products. Ask a member of the Master Locksmiths Association for advice at www.locksmiths.co.uk

·  Strengthen door-frames with hinge bolts, restrictor chains, London and Birmingham bars.

·  Use a letterbox guard to stop people reaching in and helping themselves to your keys or opening the door.

·  Consider installing CCTV or a video recording doorbell which records when motion is detected and allows live streaming to your phone whilst you're away.

Secure your outside

·  Lower fences and planting at the front of a property – no more than 1m high, allows a clear view and does not provide cover for someone hiding or trying to force a window or door.

·  If possible do not store wheelie bins near fences and windows – it prevents their use as climbing aids for burglars.
